Meeting Minutes
TSARC, Inc.
April 1, 2008
The April
meeting of the Texas Southmost Amateur Radio Club, Inc., was called to order by Rudy Monsevalles, president, at 6:30 p.m. at the First
Community Bank, 787 South Sunshine Strip, Harlingen, Texas. There were 17 members
present. All officers were in attendance. TSARC, Inc. Director George Salinas was
present, Russ Lamb was absent.
MINUTES
The minutes
of the previous meeting were read. Pat Stotler said AARL should say ARRL.
Bonnie Morton moved that the minutes be approved as corrected. George Salinas
seconded, the motion carried.
TREASURER’S REPORT
Bob Ross read the treasurers
report. Rudy pointed out that he had approved the $89 expenditure for the new
TSARC, Inc., website as an expense that needed to be expeditiously processed.
Rudy thanked Bonnie Morton for her swift action in researching website options
and registering our new domain name, TSARCinc.org, and setting up accessibility
so quickly.
Bob Ross noted in the treasurer’s
report that three members, Carol Hansen, Richard and Linda Des Rosiers, had not
yet paid their dues and questioned if they should be considered as resigned as
stated in the TSARC, Inc. by-laws. He said they had been sent dues notices in
December, January, February and again in March being told non-payment of dues
by the end of the 1st quarter would result in their being considered
resigned. Bonnie Morton made a motion that they be considered resigned, Percy
Marchbanks seconded. The motion carried. The treasurer’s report was accepted.
CORRESPONDENCE
Jodie
Law reported she delivered to Dr. Woolweaver information regarding TSARC, Inc.
he had requested earlier.
OLD BUSINESS
- Ralph Waddups reported on
the testing session held for the National Weather Service in Brownsville.
Bob Raynor said six people tested and all passed. Bonnie and Ron Morton
were called to assist in the session, and two volunteers from the Charro
Club also assisted. Bob said he is planning for two follow-up classes for
these new Hams. Bob has prepared lesson plans that he has asked Ralph and
Ron to review.
- Pat Stotler said there are
two Winter Texans at Fun N Sun RV Park who are interested in becoming
Hams. They will return in the fall and perhaps will attend classes then.
- Bonnie Morton asked
members what they’d like to see on the TSARCinc.org website. She said she
would add links to the site where copies of the question pool with answers
are located. Rudy again thanked Bonnie for all her efforts in getting the
new website up and running.
- Jodie Law said we need to
contact ARRL to change website name to TSARCinc.org. She volunteered to
contact them.
- Jodie said that David
Woolweaver said we may lose the use of the repeater if we do not make use
of the meeting room at Harlingen Medical Center. We need to schedule test
sessions or meetings at the facility offered by them. Patricia “Shadow”
Raney said their meeting room is large, comfortable, hasWi-Fi, and the has the latest technology in
audio/visual equipment and has ample parking. She repeated we need to make
use of this facility before we lose it. Ralph Waddups said he would check on
securing the location, and would make arrangements for meetings for the
next four months. Jodie Law made a motion to change meeting location,
Floyd Creamer seconded – the motion carried. Bonnie Morton will post
directions to the new location, plus a map, on the website.
- Shadow discussed use of
the Rag Chewers Net, SPARKS, ECHO Link, and the emergency net. Rudy
reminded members that the Rag Chewers Net is not a function of this club.
He said communications between the involved clubs needs to bring about a
mutual agreement for its use. Bonnie volunteered to make an announcement
to this effect on the Rag Chewers Net.
- Shadow announced she would
be conducting training on emergency procedures in the next couple weeks.
NEW BUSINESS
- Floyd Creamer made a
motion “to ask Charles Brabham to
resign from TSARC, Inc. as his presence is not wanted in this group. Floyd
said Charles Brabham has been a problem for the past 20 years and he has become
a hindrance to friendship and brotherly love.” Deborah Jo Van
seconded the motion. Discussion followed. A vote was taken and the motion
carried. A letter will be prepared and mailed to Charles Brabham by
certified mail.
- Shadow asked for signatures
on a petition she has prepared regarding
ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Service) moving here. Rudy reminded members that
this is not official club business.
- Ralph Waddups discussed
the club’s Saturday morning breakfast at Mi Rancho restaurant. He said there
have been complaints about this restaurant for a long time.
Ralph has located another
restaurant, Tila’s, that he believes will better meet our needs. It was agreed
that we will go to Tila’s for our Saturday morning breakfast. Rudy will notify
MiRancho, and Ralph will arrange with Tila’s.
Percy Marchbanks moved that we adjourn at 7:30 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
/s/ Carolyn Ross, secretary
